Dear Christians, the feast of Pentecost is near. On this same occasion, after the Holy Spirit has poured out upon the Blessed Virgin and the Apostles, the newly established Church dared to appear. Saint Peter, the stone, according to the name given by Christ to Simon, is at the head of it.

Today's Gospel therefore relates the conversation between Christ and Peter. We are fully aware that it was the disciple who denied Christ three times before the cock crowed, at the time of Christ's arrest and condemnation. In this Gospel, however, he makes a profession of faith, a declaration of love in public to atone for these earlier denials, before assuming this special task entrusted to Christ.

For us today, who has not, at least once, rejected Christ? Who has not pretended not to be a Christian in the face of difficult times and trials of faith? But it is not these infidelities that determine our Christian faith, but the will to repent. The proof, the responsibility was entrusted to Peter with the task of administering the Church. This important role continues to this day in the Church through the Popes, Peter's successors.
