Wednesday, July 15, 2020 - 15th week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 11, 25-27 - Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you have revealed to the little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom!

If we followed it well, we should have realized that this is the continuation of yesterday's Gospel. This passage indirectly rebukes the proud who have not received the Gospel of Christ and openly calls them vain. Jesus addresses a prayer directly to God the Father. A prayer that is full of praise and at the same time contains a message for those who believe themselves to be superior to others, for those who never listen to the voice of the poorest.

In society, the proud - those who think they are doctrinaire, those who ignore the least, those who think they are superior - do not recognize the existence of God. Here it is Christ who makes this God known through his prayer. The poor and the destitute, the simple and the humble are God's purposes. Jesus proves this in the choice of his apostles, whom he himself describes as "simple of heart". Humility is an attitude that Christ particularly cherishes, and He showed that God hid his Gospel from the proud, but revealed it to the simple of heart.

In the face of this prayer of Christ, let us be humble and simple of heart to be worthy of the revelation of His glory which He received from the Father. May Saint Bonaventure, celebrated by the Church today, strengthen in us the virtue of humility so that we may have little to say while always having interior joy; may we know how to appreciate and value the gifts of God given in abundance by the Holy Spirit.
