Monday, November 16, 2020 - 33rd week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 18, 25-43 - I am the light of the world, says the Lord. Whoever follows me will have the light of life.

Jesus and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem, approaching Jericho, a village about 20 km from Jerusalem. Here was a blind man, begging on the side of the road, thirsting for healing when he knew that it was Jesus who was passing by. He had confidence and hope that the Son of God could deliver him from the darkness of blindness. Jesus did not hesitate to ask him, "What do you want me to do for you? ". This is not a chance encounter, due to chance, but an encounter between the one who brings salvation and the one who has faith: "Receive your sight! Your faith has saved you".

The healing of this visually impaired person is a clear message that Christ wants to pass on to the Twelve, in the face of their lack of understanding of what Christ had announced concerning his suffering, death and resurrection on the third day (Lk 18, 31-34). We, too, can have this form of blindness in our lifetime, as were the twelve men, who do not see or understand what Christ is telling them. So let us make the effort, like this visually impaired person, to take a step, to ask Christ to give us new eyes to see and understand what He does and says, in order to apply them as Christians.
