Today marks the end of the Church's liturgical year. The Word of God also tends towards this end. It seems to indicate the end of our life, where there will be only two possibilities, either eternal happiness or eternal torment. It is so important in our lives that we have a happy end so that Jesus, the guarantor of eternal happiness, may reign in our lives. The Church gives great importance on this Sunday to the kingship of Jesus Christ; He is the righteous judge, separating the sheep from the goats, that is, distinguishing between the good and the wicked. It is not the king who sits in a palace, who is served, clothed, and eats to satiety, but a poor king: hungry, thirsty, a stranger in a far country, stripped and imprisoned. This quality is reflected very well in the poor, the smallest.

Thus, He asks us for a little more. He will judge us on what we do for the poor and needy. It is to Him that we have made gestures such as: feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, putting on rags, visiting the sick and the prisoners. In other words, we will be judged by Love: our love for God and our love for our neighbor. These two facets of love are inseparable. The true king, according to the teaching of Jesus, is not meant to be served but to serve. And Jesus himself was the first example of this. To be a king is to have land and subjects to rule over; it is not a people to be oppressed but to be loved and served. Then Jesus gave his life on the cross for the salvation of his people, and it is even written on the cross: "Jesus, the King of the Jews". A king who leads us to true life and eternal happiness. Amen!
