The cape pea sector is facing difficulties, which is one of the basic activities of the farmers grouped together within FITAME or Union des Paysans du Menabe. FITAME is a federation that works to promote the rural environment in the Menabe region.

FITAME has 750 members in 60 Associations. Their motto is: Train, Apply, Share. People interested in training and professional development come together here. Apply the training then share.

FITAME has a wide variety of production lines, but one of the most distinctive is beekeeping and cape pea production. Its members are also involved in growing vegetables, cereals and rice. According to Mr Rakotoarisoa Robel, coordinator of FITAME, the cape pea sector has been experiencing problems recently as a result of climate change.

The creation of the Menabe Farmers Union has enabled its member farmers to improve their production and income. This regional association of farmers in the Menabe will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.
