World Bees Day is celebrated every 20 May. We produce 3,000 to 4,000 tonnes of honey a year, according to figures published by the EDBM in 2023. Madagascar ranks seventh in Africa for honey production. The Malagasy people have been beekeepers for a long time, and have many different types of bee thanks to the availability of trees and plants to produce honey. The National Chamber of Agriculture attaches particular importance to promoting the beekeeping sector...

A national conference and exchange on honey was held in Mahajanga on 20 and 21 May, organised by the Chamber of Agriculture and its partner, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). According to Mr RAKOTOSON Philibert, FAO Representative in charge of the programme in Madagascar, the FAO's vision is to improve food production and security, while protecting the environment and improving people's standard of living through the FAO FFF.

The Chamber of Agriculture is promoting beekeeping, said its national president, RAZAFIMBOLOLONA Angeline. The chamber is training 24 farmers to become competent and familiar with the art of beekeeping. This is also a joint project with the FFF FAO.

A round table discussion was held on various farms in Boeny on Wednesday 21 May, the second day of the national conference and exchange on beekeeping.
