Sunday, April 26, 2020 - Third Sunday of Easter - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 24, 13-35 - Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us! May our hearts become burning as you speak to us.

The Gospel tells us about the journey of two disciples to Emmaus after the resurrection of Jesus. Overwhelmed by grief and despair, they did not recognize Jesus. Recognizing Jesus requires perseverance. Given how little we know of Him, doubt and despair can happen to us, just like those disciples on the road to Emmaus. But Jesus did not leave them in ignorance for long, He revealed Himself and they recognised Him. The good news of Jesus' resurrection is always a source of joy.

Jesus is alive, always present in our midst. We are on the same path as the disciples of Emmaus: it is in listening to the Word of God and in the celebration of the Eucharist that we come to know better the Lord Jesus, victorious over death. Above all, God does not want us to fall into sorrow and despair. He wants us to be happy with Him. Just as He did for the disciples, Jesus can open and change our hearts if we agree to follow Him.
