Saturday, May 02, 2020 - Third week of Easter Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 61-79 - Your words, Lord, are spirit and they are life. You have the words of eternal life.

This teaching of Jesus is beyond comprehension. It is not only that it is incomprehensible to those who have listened, but they refuse to understand it. Many people have taken Jesus' words, "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life," literally and have left Him. Turning to his disciples, Jesus asked them, "Do you also want to go?", and as almost always it was Peter who answered, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life". More simply, Peter's words mean: "We do not understand what You are saying, yet we believe that You are Messiah and Lord, so we are ready to follow You".

It is not necessary that everything is intelligible to us to be able to follow Jesus. The faith and teaching of the Church gradually introduces us into life with Christ. But in order to believe in Jesus we must first love him.
