Tuesday May 11, 2021 - Sixth week of Paschal Time - I will send you the Spirit of truth, says the Lord; he will lead you into the whole truth - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 16, 5-11

Today's Gospel speaks of the departure of Jesus. His disciples will feel abandoned. They must face the experience of loneliness before the world that hates and persecutes them, but at the same time they will also experience the apparent silence of God. Because of this sadness at the departure of Jesus, the disciples will close in on themselves and this withdrawal into themselves prevents them from asking the fundamental question: "Where are you going Lord Jesus? What does your departure mean?". Jesus will go, not to forsake his own, but rather to go to his Father, it is a journey to glory.

Sometimes we think that the current times we are living (time between Easter and the second coming of Jesus) are insignificant, poor times, because Jesus has gone to his Father. But we forget that the Holy Spirit is present among us to make us understand who Jesus Christ really is and how to achieve a more intimate communion with Him.

In the text of the Gospel, the Holy Spirit will "prove to the world its error in matters of sin, righteousness and judgment." In this sense, the Holy Spirit will demonstrate the guilt of the world, to confuse it by refuting the accusations he made against Jesus Christ and his disciples. If the Jewish authorities affirm that sin is to believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit will show them that it is the opposite, that is to say, to sin is to refuse to believe in Jesus- Christ. The Gospel invites us to understand how the Holy Spirit plays an important role in the history of salvation and we will thank God for this precious gift. Let us now show our gratitude to this third Person of the Trinity with the prayer on the Holy Spirit that our parents have taught us from our childhood by saying: O Holy Spirit, enlighten our intellect; O Holy Spirit, strengthen us; O Holy Spirit, sanctify us.
