Another parable he put before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the householder came and said to him, `Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?' He said to them, `An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?' But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'"

"Patience in humility, diligence in the care of young people, fidelity to the three vows of religious life": this is the content of the message of Mgr Rosario Vella, Salesian bishop, one of the Salesian pioneers in Madagascar, during the ceremony opening of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Madagascar.

Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Gabriel Randrianantenaina bishop of the diocese of Tsiroanomadidy in the region of Bongolava. Four years ago, Mgr Gustavo Bombin Espino, former bishop of this diocese, was appointed bishop of Maintirano so the diocese in question did not have a bishop. The episcopal ordination took place on Sunday July 11, 2021 at the Public High School of the city Tsiroanomandidy.

"Therefore listen to the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart; that is the seed sown on the path. As for the seed sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. But such a person has no deep root, and he endures for only a short time. When some trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, he immediately falls away.

"The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but worldly cares and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. However, the seed sown in rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirty times what was sown."
