RDB's story

The Salesians, who arrived in Madagascar in 1981 under the enthusiasm of the "Africa Project", have been distinguished for their commitment in Communications.

Ten years later, in 1991, began to grow the idea of founding a radio station for the purpose of evangelization, education, and social advancement.

The idea became reality in 1994, when Don Luigi Zuppini, Provincial of the Salesians of Madagascar, and its Board approved the project. Don Luca Treglia was called to direct the radio, accompanied by Don Rosario Salerno as head of staff training.

During'95-'96, the nascent radio organizes training courses for operators in broadcasting, in order to prepare the staff.

Meanwhile, it also decides the name of the broadcaster which is called "Radio Don Bosco", in honor of St. Giovanni Bosco. The slogan "More I listen to it and more I love it," clearly indicates that Radio Don Bosco wants immediately to position itself as a reference radio in the capital Antananarivo.

The official opening and the beginning of the transmission takes place on 27 June 1996, in the presence of the Archbishop of Antananarivo, Mgr Armand Gaetan Razafindratandra, and personalities of the political and cultural world.

Don Cosimo Alvati succeeds Don Luca as director in 1998, and will head the radio until 2006.

March 2006 marks the return of Don Luca, the current director of RDB.
