Sunday, January 19, 2020 — Second Sunday of Ordinary time — Gospel of Jesus-Christ according to Saint John 1, 29-34 — The Word became flesh, he established his dwelling among us. To all who received him, he gave the power to become children of God.
The purpose of the Church's teaching and proclamation of the Gospel is to recognize Jesus as the Son of the Living God, the Savior, and the mission of all believers is to bear witness to this. Jesus is also the Lamb of God. Many signs speak of this in the Old Testament: Isaac was to be sacrificed but replaced by a ram. The paschal lamb, whose blood was a sign, saved the chosen people. And the docile lamb, who allowed himself to be taken away, but bore the sins of all.
These are all signs, but it is the Lamb who won the final victory that brings salvation, it is Christ. He is victorious, not in battle, not after an armed conflict, but by docility, by love, by the gift of his person and by shedding his blood.
In the words of St John in the Gospel, unbelief is the greatest sin. The Lamb takes away the sins of the world because He takes away the darkness of unbelief through the Holy Spirit who has come upon Him and the voice proclaiming that He is the beloved Son of the Father. He takes away the sins of the world, takes away the darkness of unbelief by His words, teachings and deeds, and all this testifies that He is God, the Savior as His name Jesus indicates.
Therefore, those who believe in Him are absolved from sin, become children of God and have life. Finally, it is by the same Holy Spirit by which He took flesh in His mother's womb that the Father anointed Him. Since He is filled with the Holy Spirit, He can give it abundantly and indefinitely. Let us, therefore, take Him as our daily Savior.
Par conséquent, ceux qui croient en lui sont absouts du péché, deviennent enfants de Dieu et ont la vie. Enfin, c'est par le même Esprit-Saint par lequel il a pris chair au sein de sa mère que le Père l'a oint. Puisqu'Il est rempli du Saint Esprit, Il peut en faire don abondamment et indéfiniment. Prenons-Le donc comme notre Sauveur de chaque jour.
