Jesus' reproaches to the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law are very virulent in today's Gospel. However, these are not gratuitous criticisms imbued with hatred, but criticisms to make things better, to get back on the right track. It is true that these indecent attitudes are still very widespread today, attitudes of those who are invested with some semblance of power, in various fields at different levels. Fortunately this is not a generalised case, but there are still bullies, profiteers and oppressors . It is an unworthy attitude, whether before God or before men. But Christ alone said what good is it for a man to win the whole world and lose his soul?

Brothers and sisters, let what is said be in accord with what is done. If Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law, He did not want to lose them. Let us therefore conduct ourselves honestly in all things, so that we may remain firmly attached to God. Jesus, You love us, You gather us together and reconcile us to the Father. Do not look at our sins, O God, but at the love of your Son Jesus. Amen.
