Sunday, March 22, 2020 — Fourth Sunday of Lent — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 9, 1-41 — I am the light of the world, said the Lord. Whoever follows me, will have the light of life.

On this fourth Sunday of Lent, the message of the Gospel is: "Faith in Jesus is the new clarity". First of all, it is Jesus who takes the first step towards the sick. The visually impaired has nothing to mend, in spite of his desire to see, it is Jesus who goes towards him. The gesture of Jesus reminds us of creation: God moulded man from dust and breathed the breath of life into him, Jesus made mud with his saliva and applied it to the eyes of the visually impaired, while he went to wash himself and saw. "God-Saviour" is the meaning of the name Jesus, that is, He restored the lost dignity of the one who wallowed in the blindness of darkness. Lent is days of healing, days of salvation by accepting Jesus as Savior: let us come out of darkness and walk towards Him who is Light.

Jesus and his actions are divisive. The authorities did not believe and condemned Jesus. The parents of the one who was healed became afraid and withdrew. The others, in spite of what they saw, did not dare to testify, did not want to enter into the faith. According to St. John, the greatest sin is unbelief. Lent is days of conversion, days to open the eyes and the heart to see God's grace and to allow it to penetrate them.
