The Christian tradition said that Sainte Prisca was part of a noble family, at te age of 13, she was accused of Christianity, probably around the middle of the first century, because of the persecution by Claudius.

He ordered her to do a sacrifice to the god Apollo. When she refuses, because of her Christian faith, according to the Roman martyrology, she is subjected to torture: she was beaten and sent to prison. She is released after a while. After her release from prison, she affirmed firmly her faith in Jesus-Christ. Imprisoned again at an unknown time, her sentence this time includes flogging, scalding with tallow and then she is imprisoned again. She is finally thrown to a lion in an arena, but he lies quietly at her feet.

She is starving for 3 days in a prison for slaves, then tortured in a rack. Pieces of flesh snatched from her with iron hooks and then thrown into the pyre.

She is miraculously alive, but she is decapitated in the tenth step of the Via Ostiensis, the road from Rome to Ostie. THe Christian buried her body in the Catacomb of Priscilla,on the Aventine, the most ancient in Rome,at the place of her death

According to the tradition, Prisca was the first of Occident to witness her faith in Jesus-Christ by the martyr.
