16 October - Silesian Hedwig, in Polish: Jadwiga Śląska, born in 1174 in Andechs in Bavaria as Hedwig of Andechs is the daughter of Berthold IV, Count of Andechs, Duke of Merania, and his wife Agnes of Wettin.

15 October - Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda Dávila y Ahumada, whose real name is Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda Dávila y Ahumada, is born in Ávila on 28th March 1515. The pious ideal and edifying example of the lives of saints and martyrs were passed on to Teresa from her childhood by her parents. Therese showed a passionate nature and a fertile imagination from her early childhood.

14 October - Calixtus or Callsite became a Christian as an adult. He worked - as a slave - in the service of a high official of the Emperor Commodus, named Carpophorus, who was also a Christian.

13 October - Alexandrina Maria da Costa, better known as Blessed Alexandrina de Balazar, was born in Gresufes, parish of Balazar, a small town about 50 kilometres from Porto, in the Archdiocese of Braga, on 30 March 1904. She was baptised on the following Holy Saturday, April 2, 1904.

12 October - Born in Beyzymy Wielkie in the Ukraine into a Polish aristocratic family, Beyzym studies at the Kiev Gymnasium before entering the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Stara Wies, Poland on 11 December 1872.

11 October - Firmin is probably born in Narbonne. At the age of twelve, he comes to his parent Roricius, the third bishop of Uzès from 533 to 538. Firmin succeeds Roricius of Uzès on the latter's death in 538.

10 October - Born in Greece at the beginning of the 7th century, Ghislain comes from a Gallic or Belgian family. After studying literature in Athens, he joins the order which applies the rules of Saint Basil and is ordained a priest. He would have been the archbishop of Athens.

09 October - Denis was a bishop who lived in the third century. He was born in Italy and ordained priest and bishop and was sent by the Pope to preach the Gospel in Gaul, together with five other bishops.

08 October - Born into a family from Antioch around 430, Pélagée nicknamed Marguerite; either because of her great beauty or because she was always covered in pearls; joined a troupe of actresses in Antioch.

07 October - Our Lady of the Rosary is one of the many denominations of the Virgin Mary, given since she presented herself under this name to Saint Dominic in the 13th century at Prouilhe. The Dominican Order was an ardent propagator of the Rosary.

06 October - Bruno is believed to have been born in Cologne, Germany, to a high-ranking family of unknown name, probably 1030 and 1035. He would have been first canon perhaps in the collegiate church of Saint-Cunibert in his home town, which he left young enough to continue his studies in Reims.

05 October - Helena Kowalska was born in 1905 in the village of Głogowiec near Łódź, she is the third of ten children from a poor farming family. Helena first felt a call to religious life at the age of 7 (1912).

Diocese of Miarinarivo

Pope Francis has accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Diocese of Miarinarivo, presented by H.E. Mgr Jean Claude Randrianarisoa. At the same time, the Supreme Pontiff has appointed H.E. Mgr Marie Fabien Raharilamboniaina, as Apostolic Admnistrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same Diocese.

Love and Salvation

Christmas is a great joy, because it is the love of God that has come to us, proclaims Fr. Bizimana Innocent, Provincial Superior of the Salesians Don Bosco of Madagascar and Mauritius, presenting his Christmas greetings. Salvation is accomplished, so life is not in danger of disappearing. It is this love and this salvation that we wish to fill our life so that we have peace.
