The encouragement of lay people to be active in politics has been emphasized in bishops' letters. For example: March 26, 1972 "The Church and its development in Madagascar", which encourages men to protect and increase the common good and for the development of the country. December 2, 1973: "The Church and National Affairs", which explains the role of the bishop in relation to national politics. The letters from the bishops of Madagascar can be interpreted in two ways concerning relations between the State and the Catholic Church on our island. Firstly, the letters encourage Catholic men to be active in politics, especially after 1972. The second is to warn against misunderstandings, as religion is not supposed to support a political ideology... Catechesis on the Church, the family and politics, in collaboration with P.
