12 May — Nérée and Achillée sare two martyrs put to death in a persecution of Christians in ancient Rome. They convince their mistress, Flavie Domitilla, who is about to marry, that virginity is preferable.

11th May - Eustelle de Saintes or Estelle de Saintes. According to legend, her father was a Roman of high birth and legate of the city of Saintes. Her mother was descended from an ancient family of druids. She would be a contemporary of Saint Eutrope de Saintes, and would have lived, according to the legend, in the first century of our era.

10 May - Sainte Solange was born in Saint Martin du Crot (today Sainte-Solange (Cher), in the locality of Villemont). She spent her days tending the sheep of her father, a shepherd, and praying.

09 May - Pacôme de Tabennèse or Pacôme le Grand, born in Thebaid around the year 292, and died around 9 May 348, is generally considered to be the founder of Christian cenobitism, that is, of religious life lived in common.

08 May - Désiré was born in March 512 in Sancy (Seine-et-Marne) into a family of the high aristocratic Frankish family. He is a high official of the kings Clotaire and Childebert, son of Clovis, with the title of chancellor or keeper of the royal seal.

07 May - Flavia Domitilla or Flavie Domitille, sometimes simply called Domitille, is a member of the Flavian Roman imperial family, who died after 95, and is mentioned by historians of the first three centuries. Daughter of Domitilla the Younger, and therefore granddaughter of the Roman Emperor Vespasian and niece of the emperors Titus and Domitian, she married the Roman consul Titus Flavius Clemens.

06 May - Dominic Savio, born 02 April 1842 in Riva di Chieri in the Kingdom of Sardinia. He came from a relatively poor family. His father, Charles Savio, is a blacksmith and his mother is a seamstress; they will have eight other children. Soon his parents taught Dominic to pray, to love God.

05 May - Udith von Sangerhausen, born and married in Thuringia; died in Kulmsee (former East Prussia) on 12 May 1260. Became an early widow, she left her country and her relatives.

04 May - Sylvain, revered as bishop of Gaza in the fourth century, was probably a Roman soldier converted to Christianity. After serving in the army, he became a priest and then was elected bishop of Gaza where he converted many polytheists.

03 May - Originally from Galilee, Philip is from Bethsaida, on the shores of Lake Tiberias, like Peter and Andrew. Several characters are called James in the New Testament, but here it is James the son of Alphaeus, who also belongs to the Twelve, nicknamed James the Minor in Roman tradition.

02 May - Athanasius was born at Damanhour, near Alexandria, Egypt, in 298. He came from a pagan family and was attracted to Christianity because of the good manners of the Christians with whom he lived. He was baptized by Pope Alexander, who ordained him a deacon and took him as a disciple.

May 1st - St. Joseph the Worker, St. Joseph the Carpenter is none other than the same St. Joseph, Foster Father of Jesus in Nazareth, whom we celebrated on March 19th. The day of May 1st is dedicated to Saint Joseph but also to all workers since he is the patron saint.

Love and Salvation

Christmas is a great joy, because it is the love of God that has come to us, proclaims Fr. Bizimana Innocent, Provincial Superior of the Salesians Don Bosco of Madagascar and Mauritius, presenting his Christmas greetings. Salvation is accomplished, so life is not in danger of disappearing. It is this love and this salvation that we wish to fill our life so that we have peace.
